What is your favorite business book?
It may not be a book directly related to business but whose underlying principles, themes or statements have proved invaluable to your career/business/personal development.
I have several:
Good to Great
Raising the Bar - the Clif Bar Story
Let My People Go Surfing (Patagonia story)
and my favorite of all time: Leadership Agility: Five Levels of Mastery for Anticipating and Initiating Change
If you read only these you would understand techniques to run your business, methods for building a brand and a culture, and finally how to progress as a truly effective leader.
I've read most of these with a monthly club of business owners. I suggest finding a similar group to read and discuss these books.
I would like to name two:
1) Management by Peter Drucker- Traditional principles of leadership through management that are still consistent with today's managerial climate. For example, "Your business exist to serve a customer."
2) Developing the Leaders Around You by John C. Maxwell- Leadership can be seen in the growth of those around you. As a leader seeking to develop and add value to others.
Great question. Always good to learn of great business books from other people. Everyone has recommended some good ones. Can't wait to read those I haven't read.
I carry a couple with me wherever I go.
- Re-Imagine by Tom Peters
- Love Marks by Kevin Roberts
And I never forget the learning's from:
- Jonathon Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach
This is a very tough question for me. Obviously there are a handful of books that come to mind from people like Napoleon hill, Og Mandino, Brian Tracy, and Zig. I have to say my favorite is Marathon Man by Dean Karnazes, not because it gives you business advice but it helps you to develop a mindset to push through anything.
Kotler's "Marketing Management. " A book that changed my life. Prior to that on Marketing it was Jerome McCarthy's "Basic Marketing" and in between Arens "Contemporary Advertising." Books that I use weekly in expert witnessing and marketing consulting.
The Greatest Salesman in the World - Og Mandino
21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell. It's a great foundational book for leaders, regardless of their walk in life.
Tough question but being a reader I have digested the best of the best form Maslow, Lindstom Buy-ology whch had a very interesting slant of buyer behaviour,The tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, Focus by Daniel Goleman introduced me to a phrase I still use today; the Narrower Your Focus the Bigger your Market;book by Caroline Myss. Anatomy of the Spirit. However the best book I have ever read was a paradigm shifting Power Vs Force by Dr David R. Hawkins, because it changed the way I thought and looked at life.He quantifies energy from a scale of 20 -1000. Compassion is ranked 350 and he provides a chart on power versus force words that you can use daily.
I will break the rules and offer two great business and life books! How can you not mention the iconic "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie! My next most favorite book is the marvelous "Start With Why" by Simon Sinek - a must read for any business!
